I really do suck at keeping up with blogs lol
Wow... I haven't posted in this blog in over 2 years. It's funny to look back at the last post and read about Alena. She was so little then. Now she's 3! It's so hard to believe. That post made me wish I kept up more with this blog so that I could look back and read more stories that I've surely forgotten. But oh well, all the more reason to start keeping up with the blog now, right?
So anyway, Alena's getting soooo big. She goes to preschool 3 days a week now for 3.5 hours each day, and she loves it! She's learning so much. I'm amazed at what she knows now. For example she can point to pretty much any letter of the alphabet and tell me what it is, and she knows what letters certain words begin with. I'm so proud :)
Well I suppose I'd better get to work on other things now. I'll try harder to keep up with this, even if I'm the only one who ever sees it.. haha.
Alena doesn't like the doctor, knows where the garbage can is
Yesterday my mom had a doctors appointment, so I decided that Alena and I would go with her. Our doctor is in a town that is about 30 miles from where I live, and she was going to the store afterwards, so I wanted to go.
Anyway, Alena cracks me up. I don't think she really knew where we were, because she was running all over the waiting room having a good time (the appointment was early in the morning, so there weren't many people there). Then after mom was done with her appointment and waiting to check out, she peeked out of the door to the waiting room and called for Alena. Alena went in and was fine at the waiting room window until mom started walking down the hallway toward the examining rooms to talk to our doctor, at which point Alena started saying "bye bye! bye bye!" in the saddest little voice you could ever imagine... haha. It was so cute! She definitely knew where we were then! She continued to be sad until we got out to the car, and then she was okay.
It's so funny how smart babies (or toddlers) are and how they react to things.
Today mom was taking care of some bags of nuts that she had in the fridge. Alena REALLY likes peanuts, so she walked up going "peanuts! peanuts!" and sort of doing a bouncy/jump-type move while she was standing there. Mom only had walnuts and pecans, so first she gave her a pecan, and she didn't really like it, so she said "thank you!" as she gave it back to mom. Then she went back to bouncing and saying "peanuts! peanuts!," so mom gave her a walnut. She stuck it in her mouth for half a second and decided she didn't like it and wanted to give it back. Mom and I were both busy at the time, so I guess she got sick of waiting for us to take it from her. Normally when this happens she'll just throw it on the floor and go back to playing.
So then she started walking towards the cupboard under the sink and started opening it. She isn't usually allowed in this cupboard because there are some cleaners (chemicals) under there (all tightly closed, but who likes to take a chance). As I saw her opening the cupboard I started to say "noooooo" until I realized what she was doing. I walked over for a closer look, and there she was, lifting the lid to the garbage can under the sink, and sliding the walnut into the garbage... haha. I couldn't believe it. So then I told her what a good girl she was and gave her some chocolate.. haha. She loooooooves chocolate.
It's amazing what babies learn without actually having to teach them. They just watch you and do what you do. I think that's why you have to become a better person when you have kids... because they might turn out just like you... and I don't know about you, but I want Alena to be the best person she can be... so in order for that to happen, I have to teach her the right things by DOING the right things. So she might just be teaching me more than I'm teaching her... haha. Having kids is a crazy experience!
I'm going to try to post more in this blog
I've only made 2 posts in this blog, and the last one was in October. I'm doing really well at keeping up with it, aren't I? haha.
I've never really been that great at keeping up with journals. My mom wanted me to keep one for at least the first year of my daughter's life, to record everything new that she did... but I didn't do so well at that either.
But... I'm going to do my best now to keep up with this blog. I guess it'll be a mix of everything going on in my life... but mostly what's happening with Alena, since she pretty much IS my life.
Anyway... the blogging starts now.
Man am I bad at keeping up with these things!
So yeah... I wrote my last post fully expecting to post the next day about how the day went. Here it is... 2 weeks later.. and I am just now getting around to it. GO ME!
Anyway, so I got to my friend's party a little later than expected. When I arrived they were loading up the wagon for a hay ride. They asked if I wanted to go, so I ran over with Alena because I figured she'd like to go. They were using 3 haybales as steps to get onto the wagon, and then you had to duck under some ropes in the door, so I had to put Alena in the wagon first so that I could get in. She did NOT like that. She screamed like crazy and then when I got onto the wagon she had a death grip on me! So we sat down, Alena still screaming and clinging to me with her life.. haha. She calmed down when she noticed 2 dogs running around and went "PUPPY!! WOOF!" After that she was fine and we had a good ride... until it came time to get off of the wagon. Again, I had to put her down, and we had a complete re-enactment of the earlier scene.. haha.
So anyway, the party was good. I talked to some people I haven't seen in a while, Alena got to pet the horses and eat veal (I think it was veal anyways), and she pretty much ran around with the kids, chased the dogs, and had a good time.
Next we headed to mom's party location to help decorate. When we got there they were already decorated! So I just hung around for an hour and a half, greeting people, until my mom came. She cried. haha. She said she had no idea and thought no one was doing anything special, up until she saw my sister's truck in the parking lot! That kind of gave it away.. haha. The party was a good time, though.
At the end of the party, mom agreed to take Alena home with her so that I could go out. So, off I went to my friend's going away party. It was outside and it was cold! We all huddled around by the fire for a while, and then as people started leaving, a few of us decided to head down to the bar. That wasn't very exciting. There was hardly anyone out, but I didn't care because it was just nice to get out of my house for once!
So that was my eventful saturday. All in all it was a good day. I saw a LOT of people I haven't seen in forever and I got to eat cake! :)
I'm up too late.
So it's 12:38 AM and I'm writing my first blog. It's October 7th, so it's my mom's 50th birthday.. happy birthday mom! I have a big day tomorrow (today), and really should be getting some good sleep in. So what do I do? I stay up all hours of the night, as usual, cause I'm good like that. Staying up this late wouldn't be much of a problem if I didn't have a 1-year-old who likes to wake up earlier than noon.Anyway, tomorrow should be fun and I'm excited. Some friends are up from New Orleans (they live here, but have been down there helping rebuild for almost a year). They're throwing their annual party at their house (Octoberfest), so I'm looking forward to seeing a bunch of people I haven't seen in a while, and I'm sure they all want to see Alena (my daughter). Last time I showed up without her they read me the riot act.. haha j/k.We're also having a surprise birthday party for my mom. She's in the next room so hopefully she doesn't walk in as I'm writing this. It's just going to be a small party, but it'll be special. My sister did most of the work on it, but I'm going to go help decorate tomorrow (today). It should be fun, and I don't think mom has a clue we're doing this. Then after mom's party I'm either going to go back to my friend's party, or I'm going to go to another friend's going away party. There is just tooooo much going on tomorrow (today). It's crazy. It seems like nothing ever goes on around here... and then BAM.. everything happens in the same weekend. Why the events couldn't have been spaced out a little, I will never know.On top of that, another friend of mine is having a bridal shower, which I will be unable to attend, and yet another friend is coming up from Delaware with my favorite 2 little boys (her sons). Man do I miss them.Well.. I suppose I should quit rambling get my butt to bed. I'll post more about how my weekend went, and I'll try to do it when I'm not so tired and incoherant. Thanks for reading.. haha.April :)
