Alena doesn't like the doctor, knows where the garbage can is

Yesterday my mom had a doctors appointment, so I decided that Alena and I would go with her. Our doctor is in a town that is about 30 miles from where I live, and she was going to the store afterwards, so I wanted to go.

Anyway, Alena cracks me up. I don't think she really knew where we were, because she was running all over the waiting room having a good time (the appointment was early in the morning, so there weren't many people there). Then after mom was done with her appointment and waiting to check out, she peeked out of the door to the waiting room and called for Alena. Alena went in and was fine at the waiting room window until mom started walking down the hallway toward the examining rooms to talk to our doctor, at which point Alena started saying "bye bye! bye bye!" in the saddest little voice you could ever imagine... haha. It was so cute! She definitely knew where we were then! She continued to be sad until we got out to the car, and then she was okay.

It's so funny how smart babies (or toddlers) are and how they react to things.

Today mom was taking care of some bags of nuts that she had in the fridge. Alena REALLY likes peanuts, so she walked up going "peanuts! peanuts!" and sort of doing a bouncy/jump-type move while she was standing there. Mom only had walnuts and pecans, so first she gave her a pecan, and she didn't really like it, so she said "thank you!" as she gave it back to mom. Then she went back to bouncing and saying "peanuts! peanuts!," so mom gave her a walnut. She stuck it in her mouth for half a second and decided she didn't like it and wanted to give it back. Mom and I were both busy at the time, so I guess she got sick of waiting for us to take it from her. Normally when this happens she'll just throw it on the floor and go back to playing.

So then she started walking towards the cupboard under the sink and started opening it. She isn't usually allowed in this cupboard because there are some cleaners (chemicals) under there (all tightly closed, but who likes to take a chance). As I saw her opening the cupboard I started to say "noooooo" until I realized what she was doing. I walked over for a closer look, and there she was, lifting the lid to the garbage can under the sink, and sliding the walnut into the garbage... haha. I couldn't believe it. So then I told her what a good girl she was and gave her some chocolate.. haha. She loooooooves chocolate.

It's amazing what babies learn without actually having to teach them. They just watch you and do what you do. I think that's why you have to become a better person when you have kids... because they might turn out just like you... and I don't know about you, but I want Alena to be the best person she can be... so in order for that to happen, I have to teach her the right things by DOING the right things. So she might just be teaching me more than I'm teaching her... haha. Having kids is a crazy experience!
